I can remember the clip-clop of horse drawn carts in Carluke in the fifties. However I cannot imagine what it must have been like in Glasgow in the twenties. Not one lone horse drawing a milk-cairt or for the coal merchant, but dozens of metal-shoed horses on cobble streets. Not to mention the horse dung and the smell in high summer.
These pictures were taken in 1920 and 1930 when Glasgow depended on drays for bulk delivery. Enjoy the nostalgia.
